LOCAL ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Located in the heart of downtown is the Mission Plaza which is the focal point of the community. This plaza hosts special events and festivals throughout the year. These include holiday gathering, wine tasting events, sidewalk art galleries, and the celebrations of Mozart.
Mission San Luis Obispo De Tolosa, founded in 1772, was the 5th California Mission, and was one of the most successful. This site, next to San Luis Creek was selected for its large native population and abundant, fertile farmland.
In 1925, America's first motor hotel opened on Highway 101. The tradition of hospitality continued on a grand scale in nearby San Simeon, home of "Hearst Castle."
The region of San Luis Obispo has gained a reputation for premium, award winning wines. This area has become the 2nd largest wine region in California.
