softball and volley ball facilities so close to
town. Hikers, Walkers and Nature Lovers.

Ave. Follow signs to Lake Lopez. From San Luis
Obispo take Orcutt Road south to Lake Lopez Road,
turning left (east). Turn right into Biddle Park at
the sign. Drive into the park and use any

explore the natural stream bed.
Lake
Lopez in Arroyo Grande to Pozo.
Cyclists, runners and hikers.
A back country road, crossing two mountain ridges
and several creek beds, takes you through a
chaparral and oak wilderness. Enter Lopez
Park, pay the $4.00 fee and use the first parking
lot. The first 6 miles are on a paved road.
The remaining 11 is a good jeep road with a long
moderate climb to Hi Mountain Summit at 2080 ft. and
an easy descent to Pozo. Breakfast or lunch at the
Pozo Saloon is good food in a great country
atmosphere. Return using the same road. The view is
really spectacular. This road is used by
4-wheel drivers and equestrians. Watch for traffic
and horses.
Lopez Canyon
Steep
Canyon walls with a year round creek and lush
vegetation. Spring brings out Cardinal Monkey
Flowers, Sticky Phacelia and a colorful array of
other wildflowers.
Drive to Lake Lopez from Arroyo Grande. Just
before the lake entrance turn right and follow signs
to French Boy Scout Camp. Continue past the camp on
this narrow road to the end of the pavement, total 6
miles. Park your car in the "Y" at the intersection of
Waters End and Lopez Canyon Road. Avoid blocking the
road.
The hike is on a 4-wheel drive dirt road with
some ups and downs. You will ford the stream many
times and pass several homesteads. Approximately two
miles from your car is the The Little Falls
Trailhead. A beautiful fern grotto and pool can be
found by taking a short walk up the trail. Returning
to and continuing on the road another two miles
brings you to the Big Falls Trailhead. There is a
bike rack here for cycles (Bikes are not allowed in
the Wilderness Area.) Take the quarter mile walk to
the lower falls. A marvelous place for lunch. This
is a well used area but offers a refreshing dip with
many large pools for wading. Retrace you steps,
approximately 5 miles, and return to your car.
